Internship Tracks

1. Compassionate Ministry Internship Track

Title: Compassionate Ministry Intern
Role Level: Intern
Position type: Non-Salaried
Duration:  8-12 months
Posted Date: April 1, 2017
Application Deadline: June 9, 2017
Organization Team: Toronto Alliance Church
Start Date: Sept 2017
Overview

The Compassionate Ministries Internship position is based at Toronto Alliance Church (TAC), a church in downtown Toronto, Canada. We believe that the church is called to serve the needy in its proximity. To that end, TAC is a church that ministers to many people who are poor, mentally ill, addicted, and street-involved. This happens particularly through our Saturday night Community Night, where a meal is served, clothing rooms and food bank are opened; this is followed by a chapel service. Approximately 100 people are served each Saturday night; this happens in partnership with many other churches. TAC also serves the poor through one-on-one meetings and Bible studies that happen throughout the week. We are also called into other ministry situations, such as leading memorial services for the poor. Spiritual warfare is often involved.

The Compassionate Ministry Intern will be trained to help lead in these various ministries that are already happening. The major goal of the internship will be to assist in the establishment of a recovery ministry to help people overcome addictions. There is a significant need for this in our community. Many have died from drug overdoses and alcohol abuse.  The city recognizes this need and their plan is to establish a safe-injection site soon to be located down the street from TAC. The goal of the internship is to assist in establishing a “spiritual injection” ministry. The ministry must not only be established, but needs to become sustainable once the internship is over. Likely, this recovery ministry will be based on the principles and teaching of Celebrate Recovery.

The Compassionate Ministry intern will serve under the direction of the Internship Program Coordinator and the mentor-coaching / supervision of the Pastor of Compassionate Ministries. The intern also works under the overall leadership of the Senior Pastor and the Board of Elders of the Toronto Alliance church.
